Coffee and Conversation: “Health and Healing During the Challenges of Fertility Treatment”

Coffee and Conversation is a new monthly series sponsored by the Office for Women’s Careers to create connections among faculty by bringing them together informally to address specific topics of interest and concern.

Ellen Slawsby, PhD, discussed one of the most challenging events in life that anyone can face – fertility. This discussion focused on the challenges of fertility treatment and ways to manage not only the stress of cycles, but also work, family and friends during this time.

Facilitator: Ellen Slawsby, PhD, is director of the Mind/Body Chronic Pain Service at the Benson-Henry Institute and provides individual therapy, specializing in individuals with chronic illness, IBS/IBD, GERD, chronic fatigue, and pain. She received her MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Dr. Slawsby is also a researcher and clinical trainer at the Benson Henry Institute and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Slawsby has published and presented research on chronic medical illness and infertility.

Moderator: Darshan Mehta, MD, MPH, is the Director of the Center for Faculty Development’s Office for Well-Being. Dr. Mehta is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Medical Director of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Mass General Hospital, and Education Director of the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
