MGPA – How to Have Successful Collaborations

November 13, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST

Sponsored by the Mass General Postdoc Association (MGPA)

Collaborations between scientists and clinicians are vital to translating findings from lab discoveries to clinical care. In our formal scientific training, we are rarely taught how to develop successful collaborations with other scientists, clinicians, and engineers to successfully perform interdisciplinary projects. In this panel discussion, we will hear from multiple MGH faculty on how they approach and develop collaborations in academia, how to approach collaborations with industry, and advice on having successful collaborations.

The panelists will include: Dr. Gabriela Apiou, the Director of Strategic Alliances at MGH and Assistant Professor at HMS, will talk about facilitating academic-industry collaborations. Dr. Dara Manoach, Professor of Psychiatry at MGH/HMS, will talk about her experience collaborating with basic scientists and engineers to understand the connections between sleep and psychiatric conditions. Dr. Hakho Lee, Associate Professor in Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Biomedical Engineering Program at the Center for Systems Biology, will discuss his collaborations to develop novel biomedical sensors for clinical applications.
