Parenting Series Panel: “Parenting Children with Mental Health/Learning Disabilities”

March 8, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST

Parenting Child with Learning disability

The Parenting Series is an Office for Women’s Careers initiative focused on well-being and work-life balance for MGH faculty and trainee parents. Each session includes a panel of people with lived experience sharing their thoughts as well as an expert in the field to stimulate discussion and share information on a topic relevant to managing parenthood.

Parenting inevitably involves confronting challenges. We all know that in theory, but this does not prepare us to witness a child struggle with depression or have difficulty learning and feel stuck on how to help them. This panel of parents shared their experiences and discussed their challenges and successes in this safe space. Dr. Braaten also served as an expert and shared ideas and resources to help parents. This short portion of resources from Dr. Braaten was recorded and is available (click below)

Panelists:
Ellen B. Braaten, PhD, Executive Director, Learning and Emotional Assessment Program (LEAP)
Jessica E. Haberer, MD, MS Associate Physician, General Internal Medicine
Elyse Park, PhD, Clinical Associate in Psychology
