“Gonadotropin therapy in male infants and adolescents with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism – what is the evidence and what should be best practice?”

Time: 12:00 – 1:00 pm (5-6 pm BST)

The Anne Klibanski Visiting Lecture Series was created to support and advance the careers of women. These lectures offer the opportunity for women faculty from outside institutions that have hosted Anne Klibanski Scholars to present on their expertise, either alone or in tandem with an Anne Klibanski Scholar.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants were able to:

  • To understand the role of gonadotropins in male reproductive development
  • To understand the potential for diagnosis and treatment of male hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in infancy (mini-puberty)
  • To discuss the potential for induction or completion of adolescent puberty with gonadotropins, therapeutic options and outcomes

Sasha Howard, PhD, Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology, Queen Mary, University of London

Dr. Howard is a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Career Development Fellow and Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Endocrinology, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology at Barts Health NHS Trust. Dr. Howard’s research is focused on optimizing the diagnosis and management of patients with pubertal disorders. Her research investigates the genetic basis of pubertal timing, using next-generation sequencing, comparative transcriptomic and epigenetic investigative approaches to identify novel genetic variants underlying precocious, delayed and disordered puberty.

Dr. Howard studied at the University of Cambridge and University College London (UCL) and trained in Paediatric Endocrinology at Barts Health, UCL and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. She completed a PhD in Molecular Endocrinology at the William Harvey Research Institute, QMUL. She was awarded the 2015 Henning Andersen prize from the European Society of Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) and the ESPE Young Investigator award in 2021. Dr. Howard is a member of the NIHR / BSPED Clinical Studies Group, the SoE UK Andrology network, the ESPE 2023 POC and Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology Working Group, and Co-PI of the Barts Pituitary Centre.
