HMS Core for Mentorship Excellence
November 8 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm EST
HMS Core for Mentorship Excellence
Fall faculty workshop are open for registration!
The new HMS Core for Mentorship Excellence builds upon two decades of research conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s “Center for the Improvement in the Mentored Experience in Research” (CIMER). CIMER Research Mentor Training is an evidence-based, interactive approach that engages mentors in collective problem solving and connects them with resources to optimize their mentoring practices.
Led by Bruce Birren, Lindsay Frazier and Marjorie Oettinger, the HMS core will offer workshops using case-based discussions to allow faculty mentors to experience and experiment with various mentorship strategies. The curriculum also provides faculty mentors with practical mentorship tools to implement in their own research environments, such as mentorship agreements.
The day-long workshop offered to the Harvard community once per month, and facilitated by Harvard faculty trained by CIMER, are in person. Participation requires attending for the duration of the workshop. Faculty are charged $375 upon completion of the workshop. HILS and HCSPH faculty workshop fees are fully subsidized by their institution; MGH faculty can be reimbursed through their tuition.io benefit.
