Examining Mental Health and Aging Disparities

Objectives:
Through the review of specific example studies, gain an understanding of:

1. Give at least one example of racial or ethnic disparities in late-life depression outcomes
2. Understand potential determinants and contextual factors involved in racial and ethnic disparities in late-life depression
3. Describe racial and ethnic variation in associations between modifiable risk factors for depression and biological aging

Presenter:
Olivia Okereke, MD is a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist, Director of Geriatric Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Director of the MGH Psychiatry Center for Racial Equity and Justice, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and Associate Professor in Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her research focuses on modifiable risk factors and prevention of adverse mental aging and reduction of health disparities in aging.
