Parenting Series 2022-2023: “Chasing Childhood Documentary Screening & Discussion”

January 26, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm EST

Chasing Childhood

The Parenting Series is an Office for Women’s Careers initiative focused on the well-being and work-life balance for MGH faculty and trainee parents. Each session includes people with lived experience sharing their thoughts as well as an expert in the field to stimulate discussion and share information on a topic relevant to managing parenthood.

This was a screening and discussion of “Chasing Childhood,” a feature-length documentary that explores how free play and independence have all but disappeared from kids’ lives, supplanted by relentless perfectionism leading to record rates of anxiety and depression, a situation now compounded by the pandemic. The documentary played for the first 1 hr 20 min, followed by 40 mins of group discussion.

The screening of “Chasing Childhood” was also available on-demand for MGH employees from January 24 at 10 am – January 27 at 10 am.

*Note: This is not an endorsement of the film by the Center for Faculty Development.

Discussion Facilitator:
Ellen O’Donnell, PhD, is a pediatric psychologist at the MassGeneral for Children Pediatric Diabetes Center and Director of Clinical Psychology Services at Shriners Hospital for Children, Boston.
